A Therapist’s Letter to Her Past Self: A Personal Share of My Own Journey

In this therapeutic container, you are asked to share your deepest truths. I will take an opportunity to be vulnerable, myself.

Dear Sophie,

This letter is to the version of me who didn’t know that she could defend her body with ferocity.

This letter is to the version of me who dressed and spoke differently in order to fit in.

This letter is to the version of me who let people make her feel small.

This letter is to a version of me who wished for a future where she was comfortable in her own skin.

This letter is to a version of me who felt alone and unwanted.

This letter is to a version of me who felt unprotected and powerless.

This letter is to a version of me who dared to dream of freedom, influence, and peace.

To all of those versions of me, I declare sisterhood.

Dear sisters of mine,

I thank you for everything you have done. I have visited you before and I will visit you again.

I carry you in my heart. You are protected by me. You are safe in my heart. You are loved.

I have settled into a space of knowing that growth is a state of being. There are sisters who will come after me and they will speak to my present self. I trust in them.

My identity is clear.

My worth belongs to me.

My humanity is humbling and grounds me to the present moment.

I take up space. I lift up others. I raise feminine frequency with my work.

I see raw light and power in women in a way that explodes my heart on a daily basis.

So there, dear sisters.

I love you eternally and protect you with my spirit. I am so proud of you. I am so proud to declare this strength to you which we have worked so hard to develop.

We have stepped into uncomfortable spaces, we have turned people away. We have screamed and cried and protected our peace. I forgive myself. I accept myself. I understand myself.

I choose to love myself every day.

Signed,
